Khabib Nurmagomedov returns to the octagon eleven months since he defeated Conor McGregor in the most UFC bout of time.
The UFC lightweight champion defends his title against American Dustin Poirier at Abu Dhabi on September.
But has the 30-year-old Russian inhabited his period because that struggle in October 2018 ended in a brawl that landed those involved fines and bans?
BBC Sport takes a peek at the past year in the life span of the undefeated champion.
It had been the pre-fight chat that spilled into a brawl.
Nurmagomedov compelled McGregor to tap in the fourth round before fighting his rival’s team and jumping the octagon fencing.
He apologised following the episode but cited pre-fight remarks in which McGregor”talked about my religion, spoke about my country, talked in my father”.
Members of the staff of Nurmagomedov were involved with the melee and three of the party were arrested but later released, with McGregor refusing to press charges.
Half both fighters were given indefinite bans as the the Nevada Athletic Commission and his of fight purse was initially held back researched exactly what happened.
In January, Nurmagomedov had been fined 500,000 (#380,950) along with his suspension had been put retroactively at nine months, meaning he could come back to the octagon from 6 July.
Not merely was Nurmagomedov invited to get a meeting with Vladimir Putin after retaining his title, the president dished out some parenting advice.
Since Nevada State Athletic Commission and the UFC weighed up what action should be taken against the fighter for his role the father of Nurmagomedov warned he’d be disciplining his son himself.
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov stated after the battle he”will impose a punishment harder compared to the UFC’s”, including:”I warned him. For me, discipline comes first.”
But in a meeting between the trio in October, Putin advised Abdulmanap”not to punish him too badly” because of his actions.
Putin was not the sole figure needing a bit of Nurmagomedov after his success in Las Vegas.
The fighter had been granted a meeting with the heart of the Republic of Dagestan Vladimir Vasilyev, opened an airport in Turkey alongside president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, had been envisioned with members of the United Arab Emirates royal household and was given a car by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
Fresh from his triumph over McGregor, Nurmagomedov indicated he could emulate his rival.
Mayweather got the American # 210m and defeat McGregor himself August 2017 in a struggle that created more than 450m.
“When I confront Khabib, of course I’m becoming a nine-figure payday,” stated the prior five-weight world winner.
“Over the McGregor battle. Probably $100m longer – I’m likely to mention between $110m and $200m (longer ) guaranteed”
The boxer told Nurmagomedov to”come in my world”, with the 30-year-old reacting by saying that he was keen for the bout to happen in Moscow
UFC president Dana White then phoned on Mayweather to step in the octagon before discussions about a meeting fizzled out.
Nurmagomedov was making the most of his new-found VIP standing by traveling Europe .
The lightweight champion was snapped at the AC Milan and Paris St-Germain, but his heart remains with side Anzhi Makhachkala in Dagestan.
“I remember in 2001 I moved around Dynamo Stadium two times to somehow go to the stadium because I did not have cash for a ticket, so I truly needed to cheer up Anji,” he explained.
He made a friend and was given some money to get in the old ground of the club.
“There were no seats, I saw for 90 minutes while still standing,” he added. “Almost 20 years have passed and much has changed”
Nurmagomedov also has obtained an interest in horse racing, hanging out in stables at Dubai, with all the winner of UAE Endurance Cup, Lockelea Starwood Comet’s President.
Oh, and he has had his face burned into a bit of wood…
Yes, there is no real rest for the wicked and while Nurmagomedov could have spent nine of their 11 months suspended from the octagon, he’s been putting in the hard yards in training.
The Russian has kept fans current on his progress using regular social networking posts of him preparing for his return.
Some significant work from the gym was complemented by road jogging, swimming, even and turning tyres on the beach a visit to see the bear he would infamously garnish with as a kid.
Make no mistake, even if Nurmagomedov arrives in the Yas Island of Abu Dhabi to confront the weekend to Poirier the defending champion will be in prime condition.
