Fromal’s Record Projection: 45-37 The Bet: Avoid but lean under
The Milwaukee Bucks would need to win six more games in 2017-18 than they did during the 2016-17 campaign, to give over bettors a payout. That’s not an unreasonable leap for such a young and talented group, but it is still a bit unrealistic–even in the weakened Eastern Conference.
Upside pervades this roster. Just imagine how great the heart of Khris Middleton Malcolm Brogdon, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jabari Parker and Thon Maker may turn into. Now throw D.J. Wilson, Tony Snell and then Greg Monroe into the equation.
But questions persist.
Parker may not return to the lineup until after the All-Star break since he rehabs the second torn ACL of his basketball career, which places an inordinate amount of strain on Antetokounmpo or among those unproven kids to shoulder minutes at power forward.
Maker is by no means a lock to become valuable in 2017-18, and regression could hit Brogdon following his Rookie of the Year campaign.
The Bucks will be enjoyable. They ought to be thought of a playoff lock. But their development may not be as fast as some anticipate unless all the key pieces stay healthy and do not force the coaching staff to rely on a less exciting bench.
